Two reporters from Al Jazeera go undercover in the National Rifle Association (NRA) to reveal how they manipulate public opinion after deadly massacres. As an Australian living in the US, Peter Charley was perplexed by American gun culture and the vice-like grip that the NRA held over politics. So he enlisted the help of his friend Rodger Muller and set up ‘Gun Rights Australia’, a fake gun lobby purporting to want to reform gun laws in Australia. Soon enough, they were welcomed with open arms by the NRA. With the help of hidden cameras, they captured their inner workings, how they influence public opinion and how they respond to mass shootings. Two years into the investigation, Rodger befriended One Nation, a right-wing populist Australian political party. They hoped Rodger could help them solicit donations from the US gun lobby. The investigation documented the murky world of political donations and backroom dealings and caught One Nation red-handed seeking donations in return for promising to change Australian gun laws. Now, as the controversial organisation takes on the UN, this report goes inside Washington to reveal the full extent of their political power. It's a familiar line on the NRA, but this time it's coming from a lifetime member and Republican politican, Debra Maggart. She was turned on and targeted with an aggressive attack costing $155,000, all because she opposed a bill that would have allowed Tennesseans to keep guns locked in their cars. Richard Feldman, a former senior strategist for the NRA, left because of his anger at their "scare tactics". He explains that their attitude is: "if you mess with gun owners, we're going to mess with you." In the wake of Sandy Hook, fearing it might prove a turning point, the NRA went on the offensive, savaging the Obama administration's gun control proposals and shifting the blame onto "violent or deranged criminals", even claiming the legislation was an attack on American's rights. As Debra Maggart explains, they've become expert at controlling the political dialogue. "The gun lobby is so powerful in America that they dictate how the discussion goes." 5740 - ABC Australia

After the Parkland shooting in Florida which left 17 dead, there has been renewed scrutiny over gun laws in the United States, with many pushing for stricter control. "These gun regulations are bogus," said one N.R.A member. “The problem is it's a cultural problem. How does that get solved? Values have to be reinstilled." “I'm saying that there's certain guns that we shouldn't have,” another panelist said, adding that mental evaluations were essential. Almost all panelists agreed on expanding background checks, while one maintained that those are no guarantee against a possible future attack. “You don’t know if somebody is mentally unstable until they do something,” he said. I’ve had no contact with them for over a year now, so I have no knowledge about what is currently going on at the NRA. From 2013 to early 2019 I was an NRA commentator and host of the show NOIR and CN Live on NRATV. I am also a massive Dave Chapelle fan and I think Chapelle is one of the greatest comics to grace our planet. I said all of that so that you can have some context to help you determine how biased I may or may not be after you watch this video. On June 11, 2020, Netflix published a YouTube video of a Dave Chapelle standup routine where he commented about the NRA and the “Mulford Act”. First, let’s clarify a few things. The NRA has never supported an Assault Weapon Ban. When the Black Panthers marched on the capitol, they had shotguns, Bolt Action Rifles, and M1A Carbines, “not assault weapons”. The law that Dave is referring too was not an assault ban it was the Mulford act of 1967, which was a ban on openly carrying firearms in public. So let's address... the Mulford act and was it racist?
