At the last competition day of the 1st e-glide contest it was very difficult to get back home to the airfield. The finish cylinder was big enough to stay out of the rain shower and still finish the task. With a lot of patience I managed to climb with thermals above the final glide path and also used the FES to gain some more meters. That is what is explained in this video in addition to several curiosities about these aircraft. According to Wikipedia a glider is a fixed-wing aircraft that is supported in flight by the dynamic reaction of the air against its lifting surfaces, and whose free flight does not depend on an engine. Most gliders do not have an engine, although motor-gliders have small engines for extending their flight when necessary by sustaining the altitude (normally a sailplane is on a continuously descending slope) with some being powerful enough to take off self-launch. Build cool vehicles and compete in mini-game modes with your friends or other Trailmakers online. Build a helicopter, send it to your friend, and shoot them out of the sky. A glider pilot shares cockpit video of turning too close to mountains where the sailplane almost crashes into the rocks/trees. Both instances shown were purely pilot error and I was lucky to survive. This is a good lesson to always keep your situational awareness when flying close to terrain. Remember that the wind is likely trying to blow you into the mountain as you turn to the side of it. One mistake flying low in the mountains will be fatal 95+% of the time if the glider hits the terrain. The first video was taken on Mount Nebo near Nephi, Utah. The second video was taken on the western side of Elkhorn Peak north of Malad Idaho. I hope you really enjoy this video, maybe learned a few things, and use it as a reminder to fly safely in the mountains. The glider in this video is an ASW 20BL, 15 meter racing glider. *Update* Make sure to read my pinned first comment on what happened with the FAA as a result of this video. How random is this: I was showing my glider on the ramp at a large car/air show in Spanish Fork, Utah when they asked me if I could do a glider demo flight for the crowd...Why not? What could I do in the ASW27 that would be interesting and wouldn't likely kill me? I do loops all the time and I have been known to do a few low passes so why not put them together and show everyone how much energy and potential a glider has with just a few thousand feet to work with! I towed to 3k' above the ground and the video shows the rest. What a random and interesting experience! FYI - the owner's manual for the 27 has a page specifically on how to do proper loops. My entry speed was at 115 knots indicated and I was pulling 3.5 g's. I think I pulled them off well enough. The wings didn't come off. While that was fun and all, I think I will be leaving the airshow stuff to the guys who know what they are doing. Last 2 things: I sure wish the helicopter ride business would have just waited so I could finish the routine without having to worry about hitting them taking off or landing while I was swooping. And yes, I saw the segmented circle and flew over it. Did you even notice it? That would have been super bad hitting its pole at 185 mph! Thanks for watching! Bruno - B4

The Texas Soaring Association (TSA) is a not-for-profit corporation devoted to motorless flight. Established in 1947, the club is located 15 minutes south of Midlothian, Texas, which is itself at the southern edge of the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The club is maintained and operated by the voluntary efforts of its more than 200 members. The club operates from its own airfield and owns six single and four two-place sailplanes, plus four Pawnee towplanes. TSA operates year round on most flyable Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. The club also operates on an unscheduled basis on other weekdays when the flying weather is really good! This video was made with the interest of gliding in mind.
